The slate industry closed its doors in April due to the restrictions imposed to face the global coronavirus pandemic in Spain. The effects of this decision were already noticeable in March, but the worst was yet to come. 2020 April figures speak for themselves: almost 45% less slate exports compared to the figures of the previous year, 2019.
Our reference country, France, stopped importing in the first four months of the year, 18% less slate, invoicing 34 million euros, almost 6 million less compared to March 2019 figures. The United Kingdom registered very similar figures of descent, with 28% less import volume, which is another 6 million less invoicing.
Once again, Germany cushioned the impact of these very negative figures, even registering an increase of 4% in export volume compared to the first four months of 2019.
